Natural Soap – Handcrafted in Wales

Eco-Friendly – Plastic free – Biodegradable – Cruelty Free
Handmade natural soap bars can be a good choice if you want simpler ingredients, a gentler cleanse, and less packaging-though the benefits depend a lot on the maker’s formula and your skin type.
The Benefits:
1) Milder cleansing (often less “stripping”)
Many handmade bars are true soaps made by saponifying oils (e.g., olive, coconut, shea). These formulas often feel less harsh than some detergent-based “synthetic” bars for people with dry or easily irritated skin, especially when they’re made with a higher “superfat” (extra oils left unsaponified).
2) Naturally occurring glycerine is usually retained
In traditional soapmaking, glycerine is produced during saponification. Many handmade makers keep it in the bar (it’s part of the soap), which can help the bar feel more moisturising compared with some mass-produced soaps where glycerine may be removed for use in other products.
3) Fewer fragrances/dyes (if you choose unscented or lightly scented)
Folk Soap handmade natural soaps offer a range of naturally coloured, unscented options or a choice of scented with essential oils, rather than complex fragrance blends. For people who react to strong fragrances or lots of colorants, this can reduce irritation risk, though essential oils can still irritate some skin.
4) Ingredient transparency and customization
Small-batch makers typically list oils, butters, clays, botanicals, and additives clearly and may offer:
fragrance-free bars
extra-fatty “conditioning” bars
goat milk/oat/honey options
This makes it easier to pick a bar that matches your preferences.
5) Environmental and practical advantages
Less plastic packaging (often paper/cardboard or none)
Long shelf life and compact for travel
Bars can be lower-waste than many liquid body washes (which are mostly water and come in plastic bottles)
6) Supports small businesses and local production
Buying handmade often supports local or independent producers and can reduce transport distance depending on where you buy.
Important caveats (so expectations are realistic)
“Natural” doesn’t automatically mean hypoallergenic. Essential oils, botanicals, and even some natural preservatives can trigger reactions.
Soap pH is typically higher than skin’s natural PH. Some people with eczema/very sensitive skin do better with small batch, well-formulated natural soap bars or gentle cleansers.
Quality varies: A well-formulated handmade bar can be excellent; a poorly formulated one can feel drying or leave residue in hard water.
How to get the most benefit
If your skin is sensitive: choose fragrance-free, minimal-ingredient bars.
If you’re dry-skinned: look for bars higher in olive/shea/castor oil, and avoid heavy exfoliants.
Let the bar dry between uses (soap dish with drainage) to make it last longer.
If you tell me your skin type (dry/oily/sensitive, eczema/acne-prone) and whether it’s for hands, body, or face, I can suggest what to look for on an ingredient list.
